Tuesday 23 April 2023 marked a significant moment in our community as Selsey Town Council celebrates the grand opening of Selsey's first public Changing Places Toilet. The facility was opened to a large audience of residents at Selsey's Annual Town Meeting, with the ribbon being cut by Cllr Ian Martin, Chair of the Assets & Amenities Committee. This new facility based at the Selsey Centre, Manor Road, epitomises the Town Council's commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and the well-being of every resident and visitor to Selsey.
The Changing Places Toilet is tailored specifically to meet the needs of individuals with profound disabilities and their caregivers. Equipped with a hoist, privacy screen, adult-sized changing bench, peninsula toilet, and dedicated carer spaces, it ensures a dignified and comfortable experience for all.
"The installation of the Changing Places Toilet reflects Selsey Town Council's dedication to creating an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of ability, is valued and respected." stated Cllr. Ian Martin, Chair of the Assets & Amenities Committee. "Selsey Town Council thanks the Department of Levelling Up Housing and Communities and Muscular Dystrophy UK for awarding the grant funding via Chichester District Council."
Managed by a dedicated project team, the implementation of this facility is the result of meticulous planning, coordination, and collaboration. The tangible benefits extend beyond mere convenience, fostering a sense of belonging, easing challenges for caregivers, and enhancing overall accessibility at the Selsey Centre.
